Jr. Girls' Basketball Team Revives Glory Days at KCSS.
The program has had its share of good players in the last 30-odd years, Dorothy Engleman , Moira Rigby , Sharon Hanlon and Michelle Roberts to name but a few; however, the championships have been hard to come by. It seemed that it was the boys' program that was always capturing the headlines; two championships in the 80's, two significant tournaments established [the Court of Kings and the Provincial Junior Championship] and all those very good players. Nevertheless, in November a team of young ladies that no one Under the guidance of coaches Jennifer Ley and Becky McQuaig, and with significant input from Mike Mallory, the girls stormed through league play going 8-0, defeated Milliken Mills, Vanier and Maple before edging St. Jean de Brebeuf by a single point at the buzzer to capture the title. It was only the second girls’ championship since Gwen Chvalevich guided her junior girls’ squad to the GBSSA title in 1975-76, and Kathy Bell and Dr. Smereka orchestrated the midget girls' YRAA victory in 1986-87. Congratulations to all three teams.
